Sheila Marston

MBACP, EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner

I am an experienced qualified counsellor and trauma therapist based at the Cottage Therapy Centre.

My aim in counselling is to create a therapeutic relationship in which the client feels safe enough to explore and express their thoughts and feelings without fear of being judged.  I work with the client at their pace to help them identify and clarify their issues; explore choices; and discover a way forward to bring about the desired change.

Initially I trained as a person centred counsellor and this approach is still at the heart of my therapy.  However as my practice has developed I have become more integrative and now incorporate Cognitive Behaviour and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) into my way of working, when it is appropriate to do so.

I am a member of two professional counselling/psychotherapy bodies the BACP and the BABCP; and two trauma societies the UK Psychological Trauma Society and the ISTSS, plus the EMDR UK Association.

Through attendance of conferences and workshops etc, I ensure that my knowledge and skills are continuously updated and refined.  I adhere to the BACP’s Ethical Framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy.
